Many of us are brought up to people please and to nurture others.  Few young girls are nurtured to be strong leaders.  I was lucky enough to have a mother that was brought up to people please however, brought her daughter up to lead!  My mother stepped forward during the women's movement when it was scary to be bold, sassy and lead beyond the role of mother.  I admire my mom for having the courage to stand up and lead.  She became a leader because she knew with four daughters at home she had to be an example for our future. My mother did not want us to have the curse of people pleaser.  But, to have the courage to be people leaders!

Being a leader is not about popularity. Most leaders are not "popular" because they have the courage to stand up against the norm and stand with a mission and a purpose in their heart.

Stand strong. Stand in belief. Women First - Mothers Second is about strength and peer support to lift you higher than you have ever been as a person.  Overcome "traditional" ways of thinking, and defeat the generational stigma that has been placed on women over the years. Be empowered. Be a woman. Be everything you wanted to be and be a better mother in the end.

You all are great examples of stepping beyond the status quo and leading......I agree our kids need to see as confident women, leaders, and living a life of significance.  YEP, we can make a mean peanut butter and jelly sandwich too!

It is not selfish---it is self preservation!

This was a much needed pep talk for me.  I have to remember that my decisions are not always going to be popular, especially when it goes against the status quo!  I guess sometimes it's OK to be selfish as long as it is done for a positive cause.

This is so powerful. Too often we get caught in the trap that generations before us were trapped in. Times have changed drastically and women's roles need to change as well. We need to support women who step out of the "traditional" mom/wife/female role and encourage eachother to be bold and seek a different path. Perhaps one that is less traveled. What do we want our children, especially our daughters to see from us as women, mothers, wives? Do we want them to see a women, passive and submissive, servant and low self worth or do we want them to see a women who is strong, confident, motivation, driven, high energy, high self worth and self confidence. These qualities have nothing to do with whether you are an at home mom, a work at home mom, a career mom- most of us to be honest have to play ALL of these roles. You can show them but you have to show them. They are watching you- be the example you want them to see. Beautiful post Suzy!
