Find your motivation!

Okay H.O.T. Moms....

Days when you are tired, both moentally and physcially...you have to find your motivation. I used to have my “fat” pictures on my fridge, at my desk, in my car.. as a reminder to myself… of how I looked, because as you may know I NEVER thought I was as big as I looked in pictures. I never allowed anyone to take pictures of me when i was at my heaviest… After I lost 100+lbs (even at 360lbs) I thought I was the hot stuff!! SO those were some of my before pics on my… Continue

Following My Own Words/Advice

Its because I am a woman who is a wife and mother that I can go beyond the superficial nature some people feel comfortable with because they themselves can't handle being who they are.

Okay that's the last line regarding "Lights On Lights Off". That was a greast thread to start a dialog. Who would think a topic would bring up so many feelings. Every one of them was in the "Lights On" moment. Being comfortable with ourselves and our showing our significant others this… Continue

What Most Women Do -- By, H.O.T. Mom Amy Barnes

Women have it all wrong when it comes to weight loss. The average woman when she joins a gym looks at how many treadmills there are and the aerobics schedule to see if there are classes that fit in her schedule. When women want to lose weight they torture themselves with repetitive movement for hours on end spinning their wheels or running to nowhere like a hamster in a habitrail! If you take a look at all of the women walking on the treadmills you’ll notice none of them have the body most… Continue

Lights On or Lights Off?

I had a recent conversation with some women and we were discussing who was a 'lights on' and a 'lights off' woman~! It got me thinking why do most women want to hide their beauty with the lights off and others are comfortable with the lights on. Is it the fact that 66% percent of Americans are overweight? Is it because we are way too hard on ourselves? As one person said---we all have scares and flaws inside and out. It is our true beauty that shines when we let go and fear no more. I did not… Continue

Put in the Big Rocks First

Put in the Big Rocks First

One day an expert in time management was speaking to a group of business students and, to drive home a point, used an illustration those students will never forget. As he stood in front of the group of high powered overachievers he said, "Okay, time for a quiz."

He pulled out a one-gallon, wide-mouthed Mason jar and set it on the table in front of him. Then he produced about a… Continue

A Vision for Your Finances

One of the number one things families struggle with is money. Last week I read this article and was inspired to be more for my family when it comes to money. It is also written that we perish for lack of knowledge. Let's not be those moms who perish simply because we didn't know.

God Has a Plan for Your Finances

Money is a resource and gift given to us from God. Like water, wind or electricity, money can work in profitable ways when… Continue

Empty Nest is Not So Empty

Last night 5 mom's were on their way to see a Collective Soul concert. YES, moms can still rock! Most of these moms were about to experience the empty nest as kids go off to college. All of them have prepared themselves by slowly creating a life beyond the kids. Each found a hobby or career that has them excited and ready for the next stage of life----The Empty Nest. But, their Nest will NOT be empty! But, full of fun, growth and new opportunity for discovery. My daughter was also going to her… Continue

Exercise Won't Make You Thin?

Have you heard about the Time Magazine article with this eye-catching title? It's created quite a controversy and discussion in both the online and offline fitness community.

This excerpt provides the basic message of the article.

The basic problem is that while it's true that exercise burns calories…

Face your Fears in the GYM!!

It’s no secret that America’s “battle of the bulge” continues to grow and it’s often attributed to our lack of movement and our oversized portions. And yes, those are the obvious reasons, but I have come to discover that it isn’t only lack of motivation that holds people back, but it’s FEAR! Fear is an emotion that often stops us dead in our tracks. So in our current uncontrollable economy, one thing we can control is our commitment to our health. If fear has held you back, the best way to… Continue

Her Best Self

One year ago my dear friend was having chemotherapy. Yesterday was the New York City Half Marathon. One year ago she had to tell her kids she had cancer. Yesterday I was standing with her two young children in Times Square. One year ago my friend was bald. Yesterday she sported a great new hairdo. One year ago my friend was dying. Yesterday my friend was LIVING. One year ago she had lost her compass and didn't know where she was going. Yesterday she knew where she was and where she was going.… Continue

Inspiration With Memories, Shared by, Miriam Cash

Upon returning from vacation in a very different part of the country than we live, I find myself having difficulty with re-entry. We had a very therapeutic and relaxing visit to the mountains of Vermont and oh, how I didn't want to return to the hustle bustle of life in a hurry.

There is just something so soothing about seeing rolling hill and dale on the green mountainsides; the coolness in the night and the gentle breeze of the day. The sounds around us were usually of kids… Continue

No Time for the Gym? Go Out and Play!

Why Play Pays Off

Who wouldn't want to hit a chaise lounge, sip a fruity drink, and kick back while the kids run around? But don't get too comfortable. You can burn major calories just by playing outside as a family.

"Even short bursts of exercise can help you lose weight and lower your blood pressure and cholesterol," says Stephen Daniels, MD, PhD, spokesperson for the American Heart Association. Even better, if you're active,… Continue

Packing Inspiration

Packing to travel can be both cathartic and headache inducing. One thing is a must; be organized. I can't pack any other way. It's not a free-for-all since if we're traveling by plane the weight restrictions for luggage with the overage charges can deplete your margarita reserve before you even leave the tarmac!

I find packing small very difficult because I never know what kind of mood I'm going to be in on any given day, what type of social events I will partake in or if I'll be… Continue

Appreciation Inspiration

I was at the beach a week or so ago, on one of the most glorious days of the summer. Warm but not sweltering temperatures, a gentle breeze and a glowing sun. I decided to take a walk along the surf and took my camera along just in case I was inspired.

What I found was more than inspiration, it was a genuine connection with life and the simplicity of happiness. As I was focusing my lense on the crashing waves against the dark jetty rocks I realized just how spectacular and authentic… Continue
